Why the Bible Still Matters To Us Today

With its words recorded in 66 books by a number of different writers over a period spanning 1500 years, the Bible still matters to us today. Inspired by God, recorded by man, the Bible has withstood the test of time and weathered the storms of archaeological study.

The Bible is important because through it God helps us discern His truth. Scripture tells us we have both physical eyes and spiritual eyes. With our physical eyes we are able to see the world around us. Through our spiritual eyes we are able to discern God’s truths that He himself set forth in His Word, the Bible.

Scripture helps lead us to the Cross. Jesus Christ on the Cross reunites and reconciles us with God, Almighty.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. ~ John 3:16 NASB

Ezekiel 12:2 reminds us that we have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but we do not hear because we are a rebellious people, separated from a holy God. After we profess our faith and place our trust in Jesus Christ, we are filled with the Holy Spirit and our eyes are opened fully to the spiritual realm that surrounds us.

There are many today, as there have been throughout the centuries, that doubt the validity and truth that the Bible presents. Don’ t let them fool you. The Bible still matters. Through the Bible, you and I can come to know God, who he is, what he desires, and what he cherishes. Through Scripture we can come to know His Son and what he did for us on the Cross at Calvary. Through His Word, God reveals himself to us individually and on a very personal stage. Apart from His revelation of himself to us, we would remain eternally blind, unable to see and hear the spiritual truths that reign supreme in this world and the next.
