7 Success Fostering Actions

We live in a success-driven world. Stephen R. Covey warned of being so busy climbing the corporate ladder only to find the ladder is leaning on the wrong wall. How we define success in our 21st century culture certainly differs from individual to individual. Here are my 7 Success Fostering Actions that I believe will help transform you into a successful person.

  1. Spend time with your higher power. For me, as a Christian, that’s the personal God of the Universe. If you’re a recovering addict, it may be the door knob. Either way, before you rush into the day, invest time with your higher power.
  2. Tell your significant other: I love you. Don’t text “ILU” or say “love ya.” Look into their eyes, hold their hand, and say the three words with deep empathy.
  3. Walk your neighborhood. Do this with your loved one, your dog or just on your own. As you walk down the sidewalks, pray for your community, the families, and individuals that inhabit it. Think good, positive thoughts. If you encounter a neighbor, be sure to smile and greet them with a hearty hello.
  4. Identify the most important thing you can do at work today that will make a difference from that day going forward. Yes, they liked your resume. Yes, you have tasks to do and missions to accomplish. But they hired you to solve a problem for them. What is that problem? Have you solved it? Make an impact.
  5. Invest time in someone else. The best thing you can do for you is helping someone else develop and become all that they can be. After all, it’s not all about you. The sun isn’t revolving around you. You’re revolving around the sun. So, help somebody.
  6. Spend time with someone who can do nothing for you. Make time in your day to visit with someone who could use a friend or a listening ear or that would love to have some company. Maybe you can visit some older folks at the local nursing home or spend time with a grandparent. You’ll be richer for it.
  7. Be kind. The world could use more kindness. Treat others with genuine care and courtesy. Give them respect and dignity. Smile. Say hello. Ask them about how they are and listen to their response. Open the door for someone or let someone cut in line ahead of you. It’ll be okay. What goes around, comes around. That’s true for good things too.

If these are totally new concepts to you, I hope you’ll give these 7 activities a sincere try. I truly believe doing them will transform your day. 1. Beautiful one! I particularly like the ILU part. We are too much in a hurry these days. I feel like screaming “catch me Lord!!!!”
