Evening Prayer 16 | Accounting for My Day

The end of the day provides us the opportunity to spend time with the Lord. We review the events of the day, what went wrong and what went right, prayers we promised we’d make on others behalf, and how our walk matched our talk. We can thank God for His goodness and watch-care for us. We can ask Him for forgiveness where we fell short. We can ask Him to hear about the needs of others as well as ourselves.

I sleep better when I pray before my head hits the pillow. I don’t toss and turn as much. I wake up better rested and at peace, ready to face a new day.

How about you? How does prayer impact your life?

Prayer:

Father God, thank you for the divine encounters you put in my path today. I pray for those who shared their burdens and cares with me. I give them over to you and lift up those who need you. Forgive me where I fell short today. Help me do better next time. Give me a good night’s rest so I can face the day ready to honor and glorify You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Evening Prayer 15 | Gratitude

It’s pre-Friday and the weekend is within reach. As you get ready to call it a night, what are you grateful for as you look back at the last few days?

Being thankful for those things that go right in our life help us deal with the things that go a little haywire. We all have things happen that don’t please us or go our way. We can spend all our energy on them or we can shift our focus to what’s gone right in our life.

Not sure what you are grateful for in your life?

Grab a notepad and a pen. Sit down and list a couple of things. Maybe it was the morning coffee you enjoyed seemingly a century ago. It doesn’t have to be anything big or complicated. Keep it simple.

Notepad and pen to archaic for you? Fine. There are plenty of note-taking apps that you can download on your smartphone. Choose one and list the things that make you grateful. People? Pets? A promotion? Cleaning out that cabinet drawer that’s been begging you to organize it?

You woke up today. You have a roof over your head, food to eat, and coffee to drink. You showered with clean water and slept in a warm bed. You have people you love in your life who love you back. You drove to work today in your own car. You earned money. You have money to pay bills.

There are lots to give thanks to God for…

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your love, watch-care, and provision. You are so good to me. I am thankful for the love in my life and the roof over my head. Thank you for loving me and taking care of me. Amen.

Blessings,

Evening Prayer 14 | Being Kinder

Today’s world is a rude place. People shove their way ahead in the line at the grocery store. The car in the lane next to you pushes their way into your lane, oblivious to the potential consequences. It doesn’t matter. Their time is more important. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Change begins with you and me. We can start by being kind to the next person we meet. When we are kind, we communicate that we genuinely value others. We build people’s confidence. We empower them to be kind. We make a positive difference in the life of another person. It’s a win-win. We all benefit from a kinder world.

Prayer: Father God, help me be a kinder person tomorrow than I was today. Make me conscious of the benefit kindness has on others. Help me be a positive force for good in this world by being kind to the people I encounter throughout my day.
